Safety and Security Standards When Installing Electrical Kiosks

Compact Secondary Substations (CSS) are among the most practical solutions for power distribution in open areas, residential compounds, and major industrial projects. They combine the transformer, medium voltage panel, and low voltage panel in a single metal enclosure designed to withstand outdoor conditions.

However, to ensure this kiosk operates efficiently and safely, strict standards must be adhered to during installation. The process begins with civil preparation; a reinforced concrete base with precise specifications must be constructed to ensure the stability of the kiosk and prevent it from sinking over time due to its heavy weight. Appropriate slopes must also be made to drain rainwater away from the kiosk.

One of the most critical safety standards is the earthing system. The metal body of the kiosk must be connected to a low-resistance earthing network (less than 5 ohms) to protect individuals from electric shock in case of electrical leakage to the kiosk body.

Sufficient ventilation spaces must also be provided around the kiosk, and the side ventilation openings (louvers) must not be obstructed. The transformer inside generates high heat during operation, and restricting ventilation will inevitably lead to overheating, automatic tripping, or even catching fire.
